The Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program from the American Safety and Health Institute provides everything you need to know for safe and successful babysitting. The YouTube “vlogger” style presentation of the video brings a youthful and high-energy spirit to the program content along with handouts, demonstrations, and additional resources. At the end of class, the students will receive their certification card along with instructions to access a digital copy of the Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) Student book. From getting started with your business, to collaborating with parents and children, to key safety, caregiving, and first aid tips, CABS will help set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete achievement of the core learning objectives to receive certification valid for two years. Students attend this class independently and should be prepared with a notebook and pen.

Destination Imagination is a creative, team-based STEAM program that combines problem solving and performance. Students will research a topic, create and present a play about it, and design and create their own costumes. They will also solve “instant challenges” to test their creativity and engineering. Led by GVP parent Bridget Draxler with a team of St. Olaf students!

Looking for a fun, memorable theater experience? Join this creative, positive program filled with drama games, activities and theater-based teaching! Drama Lab exists to give students a place to belong, feel accepted and be more confident. You'll play games, laugh, create stories and explore the wide world of imagination. Anything is possible and no game ever ends the same way. Each season has all-new activities, so even if you've taken this class before, register again for more drama fun! Please note: There is no student supervision from the time school is released until the start of class at 4pm. The class time is set to allow the instructor to commute and to accommodate students from all Northfield elementary schools. If you arrive early, you are welcome to wait with your student. Students may not be dropped off without a parent or guardian present until class begins at 4pm. Thank you for your understanding.

Join professional artist, Kate Langlais, as we work with a wide variety of two dimensional media like pencils, charcoal, pastels, and colored pencils. We’ll work on different techniques as we create beautiful landscape, portrait, and still life drawings. Bring your own snacks if you need them and dress for a mess!

Is your child ready for the independence of being home alone? Parents need to be sure their children have the skills and maturity to handle the responsibility safely. Whether it is for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, being trusted to be home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared. This class for children will address several topics relating to being “Home Alone” including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after school routines, phone calls and door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, severe weather, fire safety, intruders, and first aid tips. Students attend this class independently and should be prepared with a notebook and pen. Parents are encouraged to review the take homeinformation and discuss it with their child.

Ready to build, code, and compete? The LEGO® Raiders are a high-energy robotics team for students in grades 4–8 who love problem-solving, teamwork, and thinking outside the brick! As part of the FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge, you'll design and program a LEGO® robot to take on exciting missions—and dive into a real-world innovation project to wow the judges. The introductory parent meeting was on August 3. The first two weeks of the program have been set, however the remainder of the season will be determined according to parent volunteer availability and student schedules. The season runs August through December, with the chance to advance to more competitions in January. This is hands-on STEM fun with a side of friendly competition! Make the holiday season extra magical with a personalized letter from Santa Claus! Straight from the North Pole, Santa will send your child a special note filled with holiday cheer and personalized details unique to them. During registration, you’ll answer a few questions to help create a one-of-a-kind letter your child will treasure. Surprise your little one with a magical holiday memory they’ll never forget! Letter registrations must be received by 5:00pm on Friday, December 4, 2026. Letters will be mailed on or around December 15. Are you ready to take math to the next level? Math Raiders is Northfield’s enrichment program designed for students who are excelling in mathematics and looking for an extra challenge. This bi-weekly program will bring together high-achieving 4th, 5th and 6th grade mathematicians to explore advanced concepts, tackle problem-solving strategies, and collaborate on exciting mathematical challenges beyond the regular curriculum. Join Math Raiders and become a leader among the Northfield Raiders — where sharp minds rise and math meets mastery. The season wraps up in March 2027 with a spirited Math Masters Competition, where students put their skills to the test with other area schools. More details about the competition to come. Math Raiders was created as part of the statewide Math Masters program — a mathematics competition that challenges students to excel both individually and as a team. Join the Northfield MS/HS Chess Club — Where Strategy Meets Fun! Ready to level up your chess game and make new friends? Whether you’re a seasoned player or just learning the ropes, the Northfield Chess Club is the perfect place to sharpen your skills, compete, and have a great time doing it. Weekly practices + Monday tournaments = major brainpower boost! Practice: Tuesdays, September 8-November 11, 2026 Time: 2:45–4:45 PM Location: Room H122 at NHS (Scott Stanina's classroom) Up to 7 exciting in-person tournaments on Mondays! Paint with non-toxic oil paint and learn about oil paints and how to use them before working on a small canvas from a reference photo. There will be plenty of photos to choose from but you may bring your own (size 8x10) if you’d like!

Join this exciting after school “camp” designed to nurture creative young artists as they explore through painting. Kate will guide students through various painting techniques, encouraging self-expression and fostering a love for art. Dress for a mess and bring a snack to eat at the beginning of class! *All supplies included in fee. ZAPS test-preparation seminars are carefully designed to help each student do his or her personal best on the ACT. Students who complete the ZAPS seminar and practice these tips and strategies at home, typically raise their ACT scores by 2 to 4 points. In the five-hour ZAPS seminar, students will learn strategies for improving in all four subtests, take shortened practice tests that mirror the actual testing experience, and get suggestions for individualized study leading up to the ACT test during the spring for any junior who wishes to take it. Attendees receive a comprehensive study guide with practice test workouts with detailed answer explanations. Students should bring a calculator and two pencils to the seminar.
