This class is the first step on the road to a driver's license. We offer a complete driver education program conducted by certified instructors. After completing this class, students will receive a blue card and can take the permit test at a driver's exam station. Cost for replacement of lost or damaged blue cards is $10.
Students under 18 must complete 30 hours of in class instruction before they are able to take the permit test. Once the 30 hours of classroom is complete, the instructor will issue a “blue card”. Students will take the blue card to the DMV as proof of course completion in order to take the permit test. Once your child passes the permit test at the DMV they can drive with someone over the age of 21.
What is a typical class like? What is needed for class?
Class meets Monday-Friday, 3 hours each day (if there is a holiday, class will meet for 3 hours 20 minutes). The maximum number of students in class is 50. Students should bring a highlighter, notebook and writing utensil along with their school issued iPad. Manuals are provided for those without a school issued device.
Usually class begins with review. The remainder of the class includes chapter reading, worksheets, group activity and chapter testing.
What if my child misses a day?
Your child may miss up to 1 day and still pass the class. Make-up work will be assigned. This makeup work must be turned in before receiving the blue card. If more than one class is missed, the entire class needs to be repeated.
