Students aged 19 and younger must complete 30 hours of in class instruction before they are able to take the permit test. Important: Registering for the Driver’s Education classroom portion only means your student will receive a Letter of Completion after the 30-hour course. This letter cannot be used to take the permit test at the DMV. To become eligible, you must also enroll in a Behind-the-Wheel program and receive a Blue Card from that provider.
Please note: Enrolling in the Drivers Ed Combo package enrolls your student in both Drivers Ed Classroom and Behind The Wheel. If you'd like your student to receive their blue card immediately following the 30 hour Classroom course, please register for the Combo package.
What is a typical class like? What is needed for class?
Class meets Monday-Friday, 3 hours each day (if there is a holiday, class will meet for 3 hours 20 minutes). The maximum number of students in class is 50. Students should bring a highlighter, notebook and writing utensil along with their school issued iPad. Manuals are provided for those without a school issued device.
Usually class begins with review. The remainder of the class includes chapter reading, worksheets, group activity and chapter testing.
What if my child misses a day?
Your child may miss up to 1 day and still pass the class. Make-up work will be assigned. This makeup work must be turned in before receiving a Letter of Completion. If more than one class is missed, the missed seat time must be made up in a subsequent classroom session.
