Ueshiro Shorin Ryu is an ancient and practical style of Karate originating in Okinawa, Japan. Adults of all ages, and kids 8 and up, train together on the deck to build strength and self-confidence without sparring or competitions. Newer students learn by modeling more advanced students and progress at their own pace. Every class includes warmups, basic moves, kata (choreographed sequences) and targeted exercises focused on flexibility, balance and control. Mastery comes through repetition. Students are encouraged to attend 2 of the 3 classes a week as schedules allow. Beginners are welcome and attend in gym clothes until their first test, which requires a white uniform and testing fees. Karate is great for families, and parents are strongly encouraged to train alongside kids under 15.
