  • Aqua Tots

    Aqua Tots classes help to familiarize young children with the water and prepare them for participation at the pre-school level. Your child will love learning to swim with our creative curriculum themes like Safari, Outer-space, Circus, and Ocean! The parent is an integral part of the learning process and must accompany the child in the water. Purpose: To familiarize young children to the water and prepare them for the pre-school aquatics program. Learning Objectives: Respect adult supervision in and around water Learn more ways to enter and exit the water in a safe manner Explore submerging in a rhythmic pattern completely Glide on front and back with assistance Change body position in the water Learn about the importance of wearing a life jacket and experience wearing one Learn basic safety safety rules and how to avoid hazards around the home
  • Level 1 - Red Cross Introduction to Water Skills

    Enter and exit water safely, submerge mouth, nose and eyes, exhale underwater through mouth and nose, open eyes underwater, pick up submerged object, float on front and back, explore arm and hand movements, swim on front and back, follow basic water safety rules, use a life jacket.
  • Level 2 - Red Cross Fundamental Aquatic Skills

    Enter water by stepping or jumping from the side, exit water safely using ladder or side, submerge entire head, open eyes underwater, pick up a submerged object, float on front and back, perform front and back glide, roll over from front to back and back to front, swim on side, swim on front and back using combined strokes, tread water, move in the water while wearing a life jacket.
  • Level 3 - Red Cross Stroke Development

    Jump into deep water from the side, dive from kneeling or standing position, submerge and retrieve an object, bob with the head fully submerged, use rotary breathing in horizontal position, perform front and back glide, perform survival float, perform front and back crawl, butterfly with kick and body motion, change from horizontal to vertical position on front and back, perform the HELP and Huddle position, perform a reaching assist, use Check-Call-Care in an emergency.
  • Level 4 - Red Cross Stroke Improvement

    Perform shallow dive or dive from stride position, swim underwater, perform feet-first surface dive, perform open turns on front and back using any stroke, tread water using sculling arm motions and kick, perform the front and back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke, swim on side, perform compact jump into water from a height while wearing a life jacket, perform a throwing assist, care for conscious choking victim.
  • Level 5 - Red Cross Stroke Refinement

    Tread water with two different kicks, learn survival swimming, perform rescue breathing, perform standing dive, shallow dive, glide two body lengths and begin any front stroke, tuck surface dive, pike surface dive, front flip turn, backstroke flip turn, front and back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke.
  • Level 6 - Red Cross Swimming and Skill Proficiency

    Swim with ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances. This level is designed with "menu" options that focus on preparing students to participate in more advanced courses, including Water Safety Instructor, and Lifeguard Training courses. Fitness Swimmer proficiencies should be mastered prior to choosing one of the following menu options (Personal Water Safety, Lifeguard Readiness, Fundamentals of Diving).
  • Private Swim Lessons - Youth

    Private swimming lessons are available for anyone regardless of age or ability. Lessons are held at the AmericInn Pool when an instructor is available (4:30 - 5 pm & 7:30 - 8 pm) on the following Tuesdays. Other people may be in the pool as the private lessons take place. To schedule a private lesson, please call Melissa at 507.664.3502. No online registration available. Tuesdays, October 22 - December 17 $25/half hour. Children in the same family who are about the same swim level make take the lesson together for the cost of one. Lessons are not final, and payment not collected unless an instructor can be found to cover the private lessons.
  • Starfish

    Starfish swim lessons will orient children to the aquatic environment, help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic swimming, and will build on the aquatic curriculum learned in the Water Babies & Aqua Tots' classes by providing additional guided practice with increased distances and times. Your child will love learning to swim with our creative curriculum themes like Safari, Outer-space, Circus, and Ocean! Children are allowed to participate without an adult/parent in the water. Purpose: To orient preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic skills while becoming more proficient with aquatic movements as distance and time is increased. Learning Objectives: - Enter and exit water using ladder, steps, side, by stepping in from a low height and by jumping in to shoulder deep water - Blow bubbles through mouth and nose - Submerge mouth, nose and eyes and hold breath for 10 seconds - Bobbing - Rotary Breathing - Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects - Front and back glides and recover to a vertical position - Back float for 5 - 15 seconds and recover to a vertical position - Front, jellyfish and tuck floats for 10 seconds - Roll from front to back and back to front - Change direction of travel while swimming on front or back - Tread with arm and hand actions and tread water for 15 - 30 seconds - Finning action on back - Alternating and simultaneous leg and arm actions on front and back - Combined arm and leg actions on front and back - Experience wearing a life jacket in the water - Learn safety rules and what to do in an emergency
