  • Drivers Education Behind the Wheel

The six-hour Behind-the-Wheel experience is available following completion of the classroom session. Students must be at least 15 years old, have successfully completed 30 hours of Classroom Drivers Education and have their permit. We recommend completing your three 2-hour sessions close to the time of your DMV road test. Focus on logging practice hours first, then contact us 3–4 months before your test to schedule your appointments. The Behind the Wheel scheduling link is provided upon request once a student is officially registered for the program. *Email Marianne Moser, Enrichment Coordinator, at mmoser@northfieldschools.org with any questions. Then after successful completion of the Behind-the-Wheel instruction, students will earn a Certificate of Completion which is necessary to apply for a driver's license. Please note: If you fail to attend the driving appointment you are registered for or cancel your appointment on the same day (within 12 hours) a drop/add fee of $30 will be assessed for each missed appointment if money is refunded, $30 will be subtracted from the registration fee
  • Drivers Education Classroom

Driver’s Education Classroom This class is the first step toward earning a driver’s license. Our comprehensive Driver’s Education program is taught by certified instructors and designed to prepare students with the knowledge they need to become safe, confident drivers. Students 18 years old and younger are required to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction before they are eligible to take the permit test. Important Registration Information Registering for the Driver’s Education classroom only means your student will receive a Letter of Completion after successfully completing the 30-hour course. This letter alone cannot be used to take the permit test at the DMV. To become eligible for permit testing, students must also: Enroll in a Behind-the-Wheel program, and Receive a Blue Card from the Behind-the-Wheel provider. ? We strongly recommend enrolling in the COMBO PACKAGE if you want your student to be able to test for their permit immediately after the classroom portion ends. What Is a Typical Class Like? Classes meet Monday–Friday, 3 hours each day (If a holiday occurs, class will meet for 3 hours and 20 minutes.) Maximum class size: 50 students Students should bring: Highlighter Notebook pen or pencil School-issued iPad Driver’s Education manuals are provided for students without a school-issued device. Class typically begins with a review, followed by chapter reading, worksheets, group activities, and chapter tests.
