    Enter and exit water safely, submerge mouth, nose and eyes, exhale underwater through mouth and nose, open eyes underwater, pick up submerged object, float on front and back, explore arm and hand movements, swim on front and back, follow basic water safety rules, use a life jacket.
  • Level 2 - Red Cross Fundamental Aquatic Skills

    Enter water by stepping or jumping from the side, exit water safely using ladder or side, submerge entire head, open eyes underwater, pick up a submerged object, float on front and back, perform front and back glide, roll over from front to back and back to front, swim on side, swim on front and back using combined strokes, tread water, move in the water while wearing a life jacket.
  • Level 3 - Red Cross Stroke Development

    Jump into deep water from the side, dive from kneeling or standing position, submerge and retrieve an object, bob with the head fully submerged, use rotary breathing in horizontal position, perform front and back glide, perform survival float, perform front and back crawl, butterfly with kick and body motion, change from horizontal to vertical position on front and back, perform the HELP and Huddle position, perform a reaching assist, use Check-Call-Care in an emergency.
  • Level 4 - Red Cross Stroke Improvement

    Perform shallow dive or dive from stride position, swim underwater, perform feet-first surface dive, perform open turns on front and back using any stroke, tread water using sculling arm motions and kick, perform the front and back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke, swim on side, perform compact jump into water from a height while wearing a life jacket, perform a throwing assist, care for conscious choking victim.
  • Level 5 - Red Cross Stroke Refinement

    Tread water with two different kicks, learn survival swimming, perform rescue breathing, perform standing dive, shallow dive, glide two body lengths and begin any front stroke, tuck surface dive, pike surface dive, front flip turn, backstroke flip turn, front and back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke.
  • Level 6 - Red Cross Swimming and Skill Proficiency

    Swim with ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances. This level is designed with "menu" options that focus on preparing students to participate in more advanced courses, including Water Safety Instructor, and Lifeguard Training courses. Fitness Swimmer proficiencies should be mastered prior to choosing one of the following menu options (Personal Water Safety, Lifeguard Readiness, Fundamentals of Diving).
  • Private Swim Lessons - Kasie, Ages 1-12 yrs old

    Kasie provides Private Swimming Lessons for children, ages 1-12 yrs old. Kasie is a competitive swimmer who has been involved with both her high school swim team and the Northfield Swim Club. She brings two summers of swim instruction experience and is a certified Water Safety Instructor (WSI). Kasie has taught swimmers ages 1–13, including Waterbabies, Starfish, and Learn-to-Swim Levels 1–6. She enjoys helping young swimmers gain confidence in the water while building strong swimming and water safety skills. Her experience working with a wide range of ages and abilities allows her to create lessons that are both fun and effective. Outside of the pool, Kasie is a member of the Shockwaves Water Ski Show Team in Shakopee, where she participates in show skiing performances throughout the summer. Her passion for aquatic sports and enthusiasm for teaching make her a great fit for swimmers of all skill levels. Swim Lesson Information: $25/half hour. Children in the SAME family who are about the same swim level may take the lesson together for the cost of one. A maximum of three children are allowed in each lesson, although one or two is the recommended number for maximum productivity. Other people may be in the pool as the private lessons take place. There is no recommended number of lessons or schedule of lessons. Every person may choose the number of lessons desired and a schedule that works best to meet each specific need. Some families feel that 3 lessons max are sufficient, while others spend an entire summer taking private lessons. Some take lessons and random days, while others block out a couple weeks M - F, and others choose the same day each week for 4 - 8 weeks. If in doubt, schedule one or two lessons with an instructor and talk with them about what the goals are for the child/adult.     Mae provides private lessons for Children, Swimming Level 1-6 (Kids Only). Mae has been a competitive swimmer for the past eight years and brings a strong passion for the sport to every lesson. Her favorite events are the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke, which have helped her develop endurance, technique, and a deep understanding of swimming fundamentals. While this is Mae's first year teaching private lessons through Community Education, she has experience coaching and mentoring younger swimmers on her swim team. Mae enjoys helping swimmers build confidence, improve their skills, and reach their individual goals in the water. Mae welcomes a wide range of ages and abilities. Whether a swimmer is just getting started or looking to refine their technique, she strives to create a positive and encouraging learning environment. Outside of swimming, Mae enjoys playing the guitar, stargazing, and traveling to Dark Sky Certified locations to experience some of the best night skies around the world.     Natalie provides private lessons for school-aged children in levels 2 - 6. Natalie has been a member of her high school swim team for the past five years, specializing in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Her years of competitive swimming have given her a strong understanding of stroke technique, endurance, and skill development. While this is Natalie's first year as a swim instructor, she is excited to share her knowledge and passion for swimming. She especially enjoys working with swimmers who are already comfortable in the water and are looking to improve their technique, efficiency, and confidence in the pool. Outside of swimming, Natalie enjoys creating all kinds of art projects and crafts. She looks forward to helping swimmers develop their skills while making lessons both fun and rewarding.   • Private Swim Lessons - Youth 30 minute lesson

Private swimming lessons are available for anyone regardless of age or ability. Lessons are generally held at the Northfield Memorial Outdoor Pool, Monday - Friday from June 15 - July 31 (11:30 am - 8 pm) & August 3 - 14 (11:30 - 6 pm). Weekend lessons are available from June 27 - Aug. 1 (12 pm - 8 pm) & Aug. 8-15 (12 pm - 6 pm). Other people may be in the pool as the private lessons take place. $25/half hour.   • Starfish

    Starfish swim lessons will orient children to the aquatic environment, help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic swimming, and will build on the aquatic curriculum learned in the Water Babies & Aqua Tots' classes by providing additional guided practice with increased distances and times. Your child will love learning to swim with our creative curriculum themes like Safari, Outer-space, Circus, and Ocean! Children are allowed to participate without an adult/parent in the water. Purpose: To orient preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic skills while becoming more proficient with aquatic movements as distance and time is increased. Learning Objectives: - Enter and exit water using ladder, steps, side, by stepping in from a low height and by jumping in to shoulder deep water - Blow bubbles through mouth and nose - Submerge mouth, nose and eyes and hold breath for 10 seconds - Bobbing - Rotary Breathing - Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects - Front and back glides and recover to a vertical position - Back float for 5 - 15 seconds and recover to a vertical position - Front, jellyfish and tuck floats for 10 seconds - Roll from front to back and back to front - Change direction of travel while swimming on front or back - Tread with arm and hand actions and tread water for 15 - 30 seconds - Finning action on back - Alternating and simultaneous leg and arm actions on front and back - Combined arm and leg actions on front and back - Experience wearing a life jacket in the water - Learn safety rules and what to do in an emergency
  • Water Babies/ Aqua Tots

    Water Babies & Aqua Tots' classes help to familiarize young children with the water and prepare them for participation at the pre-school level. Your child will love learning to swim with our creative curriculum themes like Safari, Outerspace, Circus, and Ocean! The parent is an integral part of the learning process and must accompany the child in the water. Purpose: To familiarize young children to the water and prepare them for the pre-school aquatics program. Learning Objectives: Enter and exit the water in a safe manner Feel comfortable in the water Explore submerging to the mouth, nose and eyes in a rhythmic pattern Explore buoyancy on the front and back position Change body position in the water with support Glide on front and back with assistance Learn about the importance of wearing a life jacket and experience wearing one Learn basic safety safety rules and how to avoid hazards around the home Respect adult supervision in and around water
