  • Adult Basketball League

    Northfield Community Education offers an officiated five-on-five basketball league on Sunday evenings. Registration and league information will be emailed to previous captains in early September. New captains and individual pick-up players may contact Melissa at 507.664.3502 or mbernhard@northfieldschools.org for registration and league information. Registration form and fee are due by Friday, October 3. League begins Sunday, November 10, and continues into February.     New to pickleball? This is the perfect place to start! The adult beginner program is led by an experienced coach, and focuses on the basics: rules, scoring, technique, and court movement. Each session includes drills, guided practice, and friendly competition, so you'll build skills and confidence while having fun. No experience needed, just come ready to learn and play!

  • Cardio Drumming

    Cardio Drumming is a cardio class suited for all ages and ability levels. Using a bucket, exercise ball, and drumsticks as workout equipment, you will focus on working arms and legs, while working out to fun, upbeat music. You can also practice your drumming skills! $15 for the entire session, or $5 drop-in per class.
  • Chow Qigong

    Qigong is a subtle energy healing system and ancient wisdom practice over 5,000 years old based in Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are many styles practiced around the world, in this class we will focus on Chow Qigong which is a medical qigong. Qigong is considered a “way of life” practice that encompasses the union of body, mind and spirit. Qi means lifeforce or breath and gong means work or cultivation. Qigong allows you to cultivate lifeforce energy, health, overall well-being and vitality. Topics to be explored in the monthly series:  Foundations of Chow Qigong + medical benefits : Diaphragmatic Breathing, Posture, Sensing Qi, and Meditation using Five Elements  The Chow Qigong Exercises: which include four warm-up exercises and then the Precious Eight Movements  The Chow Qigong Five Elements Healing Meditation
  • Gumdo Korean Sword - Adult

    Develop fitness, focus, and coordination through Haidong Gumdo, the Korean art of the sword. Using the two-handed longsword, students will learn forms, drills and cutting exercises based on battlefield tactics. This is a non-contact, low-impact, fast-paced martial art. Younger students with previous martial arts experience are welcome with instructor approval or when registered with a parent. This class runs concurrently with the adult class. There is a $20 fee for the practice sword, payable to the instructor on the first day of class. Uniform and testing fees are additional.
  • Indo Yoga Board Class

    This Indo Yoga Board class takes yoga to the next level by moving traditional yoga onto an unstable environment like the popular practice of Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) Yoga or Paddle Board Yoga. Each participant will be on their own board. The Indo Yoga Board design features three rockers attached to the bottom, resulting in instability, thus challenging the user to engage significantly more muscles during each pose. The result is a much higher level of muscle activation and a yoga experience that encourages the user to slow down and focus on perfecting each pose through proper form.

    Stay active and enjoy the winter months with our adult pickup soccer games. Join fellow enthusiasts for friendly matches indoors, keeping your skills sharp, and the camaraderie warm all season long. Drop-ins are welcome. $65/session (27 dates) or $5 at the door. No large bills please. Equipment is provided.

    The Knightcrawlers Masters Swim Club meets MWF, from 5 - 6:15 am at the Northfield Middle School pool. Sessions feature customized workouts created by Coach KevinO'Brien. Kevin Has been involved in competitive swimming for over 27 years and Coaching 13 of them. Kevin was the Head Coach for the Red Wing High School Girls and Boys teams for 7 years and has been Coaching with the Knightcrawlers for 4. Swimmers are placed in lanes according to ability. Our top work out group will swim around 3,000 yards and our bottom group around 1,600-2,200. Swimmers are by no means required to follow workouts exactly, as long as the flow of a lane is not interrupted. Enter the school at door number 3 (East Pool Entrance)

    Kyudo, Japanese longbow archery, has a long tradition in Japanese history in both militaristic and ceremonial venues. Today's Kyudo is a non-competitive, introspective process to shooting that helps to focus one's mind and body on the simple act of shooting a bow. Parent participation is required for those under fifteen years old. Visit www.mnkyudo.org for more details about kyudo and the instructors. There is a membership fee into the Minnesota Kyudo Renmei when shooting begins. Practice bows ($25) are also for sale - they are optional, but recommended. Loaner equipment is provided for most adults.

It’s accessible to individuals at most fitness levels. Mat Pilates will help improve your flexibility, increase your core strength and enhance postural alignment. This class is designed for beginners to help build a solid foundation. Each week will build on the previous week’s exercises.
  • Open Gym Pickleball

    Pickleball is an activity that people of all ages can enjoy! Experiment with the general techniques and maneuvers of pickleball, or play an informal or competitive game. Pickleball is played on a badminton sized court with a net height of 34 - 36 inches, and is played with a perforated plastic ball (similar to a whiffle ball) and wood or composite paddle. The activity resembles a cross between badminton, tennis, and ping pong. Come alone or bring a partner; there is always someone to play. Pickleball paddles and balls are provided. Wednesday @ Bridgewater: Rules and instructions will be provided on handouts the first night of play. Register for the full session, or drop-in for $5/night. Sunday @ High School: Veteran pickleball players will be present to work with beginners, or anyone wanting more instruction on the game of pickleball. The program is free due to a collaboration with Age Friendly Northfield, and their financial support!
