  • 3D Printing: Nintendo-Themed Characters

    Design Nintendo®-inspired characters using TinkerCAD while learning the basics of 3D modeling and digital design. Students will complete fun, themed challenges and create simple video games while waiting for their prints to finish. Each participant will have one student-designed project 3D printed and sent home.   • Child and Babysitting Safety

    The Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program from the American Safety and Health Institute provides everything you need to know for safe and successful babysitting. The YouTube “vlogger” style presentation of the video brings a youthful and high-energy spirit to the program content along with handouts, demonstrations, and additional resources. At the end of class, the students will receive their certification card along with instructions to access a digital copy of the Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) Student book. From getting started with your business, to collaborating with parents and children, to key safety, caregiving, and first aid tips, CABS will help set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete achievement of the core learning objectives to receive certification valid for two years. Students attend this class independently and should come prepared with a notebook and pen.

  • Dakota County 4-H ATV Outdoor Skills Day Camp

    Join us for a fun and educational 4-H Outdoor Skills Day Camp designed to help youth build confidence, responsibility, and safety awareness while enjoying the outdoors. Campers will rotate through a variety of interactive stations that combine hands-on activities with real-world skills they can use at home and on the trail. Station sessions include ATV Safety, Tread Lightly And Leave No Trace Principles, Basic First Aid, and Sun, Plant and Animal Safety.   • Dakota County 4-H Arts-In Performing Arts Program

    Join Dakota County 4-H for a performing arts experience like no other. Arts-In is a summertime program for youth in 3rd -12th grade. Participants develop and learn a fun 20-minute original musical with singing, choreography, and acting. Casting and encampment located at 4100 220th St. W. in Farmington. Must be available for all rehearsals and performances. Show is performed at the Dakota County Fair, August 14 - 16. Participants will be registered in 4-H, for liability purposes, with no other fees or commitments beyond this program. Contact Kris Vatter at kvatter@umn.edu with questions. Casting: July 9, 6-7:30 p.m. Encampment: July 20-24, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (ice breakers, singing, dancing, group time) Rehearsals: August 9, and 13 in the evening. Show Dates: August 14, 15, and 16 (1-2 shows per date). The 14th and 15th is in the evening and the Sunday shows are in the afternoon. Please note fairgrounds admission is free, but there is a daily parking fee. Parking on city side streets is free. Camp fee includes lunch and snacks (we make accommodations for dietary restrictions) during encampment plus show t-shirt REGISTRATION DEADLINE: JUNE 20.   • Dakota County 4-H Dog Training for Youth

    Train your dog indisciplines like obedience, tricks, agility, and more with the support of trainers that will help your child and canine companion succeed. Train in all the areas or just the ones that interest you. Many of our trainers have over 25 years of experience in dog training, showing, and judging. Youth have the opportunity to showcase what they have learned at the end of season dog show in July. if you have questions about this program. Drama Lab exists to give students a place to belong, feel accepted and be more confident. You'll play games, laugh, create stories and explore the wide world of imagination. Anything is possible and no game ever ends the same way. Each season has all-new activities, so even if you've taken this class before, register again for more drama fun! Please note: There is no student supervision from the time school is released until the start of class at 4pm. The class time is set to allow the instructor to commute and to accommodate students from all Northfield elementary schools. If you arrive early, you are welcome to wait with your student.     This camp will energize and excite students by combining the LEGO® building system's versatility and the Mindstorms EV3 (the most sophisticated microcomputer brick ever made by LEGO®). Working in teams, students will construct fun LEGO® models, experiment with programs, and compete in robotic challenges. Robot building, block programming, and teamwork will be part of each day's activities. The final challenge will be a sumo battle. Please bring lunch and a drink.   • Growing & Cooking with Sun

    The sun is your best friend if you know how to use it! This class teaches how to cook with just the sun! Solar cooking bypasses traditional cooking means. No electricity, gas, charcoal or wood needed for solar cooking. Students will learn how to cook meals, dry food for preservation and purify water all with the sun. In the end, students will build their own mini sun oven! Participants will take home an edible micro green plant and mini solar oven. A minimum enrollment is required for this class.     Is your child ready for the independence of being home alone? Parents need to be sure their children have the skills and maturity to handle the responsibility safely. Whether it is for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, being trusted to be home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared.This class for children will address several topics relating to being“Home Alone” including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after school routines, phone calls and door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, severe weather, fire safety, intruders, and first aid tips. Students attend this class independently and should come prepared with a notebook and pen. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child.

In this creative camp, students will design intergalactic scenes using starships, droids, and Star Wars–inspired characters, then bring their ideas to life by creating a stop-motion animated short film.
