    This 6-week course will focus on teaching basic behaviors such as sit, down, stay, come, leave it and also loose leash walking. Learn about establishing good daily practices and try fun games to enjoy with your dog in each session. Please bring a 6 ft leash, plenty of soft treats, and baggies to clean up after your dog if needed. No extending (flexi) leashes please. Please indicate your dog's name, age and breed when registering and ensure all necessary dog vaccinations are current. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.   • Reactive Dog: Dog Training

    Have you considered not walking your dog anymore because it is so difficult to control them? Do they bark, lunge and growl at other dogs they meet? You are not alone! What you have is a reactive dog. In this class, you will learn how to take your dog from nearly breaking their leash at the sight of another pooch to calmly looking back at you. These are intensive classes that require you do your homework during the week, but they deliver results!   • Spanish 1st Year

    This course starts at “ground zero” for those that are new to Spanish (or have completely forgotten any Spanish they may have learned in the past). This class will use the text Realidades 1 (a popular high school text) in addition to ancillary materials created by the instructor. The focus will be on pronunciation, vocabulary acquisition, adjective forms and the present tense. Vocabulary will focus on greetings, numbers, body parts, physical descriptions and hobbies. For the winter session: Students will continue with their acquisition of Spanish grammar and vocabulary. Grammar will focus on irregular verbs in the present tense, verbs like gustar and the future. Vocabulary will cover foods, family members, activities and celebrations. A printable workbook and answer key will be provided via email. Please plan to order your textbook (Realidades 1, 2004 version) prior to the start of class (available online at Amazon.com). Provided a 3 week notice, textbooks maybe purchased from the instructor for $25. Your Spanish journey will be led by instructor Chris Kauffeld, who completed coursework for his M.A. in Spanish in Santiago de Compostela, Spain and taught English for two years in Zaragoza, Spain.
  • Spanish 3rd Year

    This course is a continuation of last year’s Spanish 2 . If you are a new student, this class would be a good fit if you are comfortable with the present tense and have knowledge of vocabulary related to personal descriptions, pastimes, food and living quarters. Students will start with unit 7B in the Realidades 1 text (new students will need to purchase a copy of the text prior to the beginning of class). Teacher-created ancillary materials will also be provided. .We will focus on the preterite (past) tense of regular and irregular verbs, direct and indirect object pronouns and verbs similar to gustar. Vocabulary will focus on travel, volunteering, media and technology. Students will be finishing the Realidades 1 text and transitioning to the next book in the series, so they will need to purchase a Realidades 2 text to continue with the winter series of classes. During the winter session, students will be starting with the Realidades 2 text. Present and preterite tenses will be reviewed, with special emphasis on irregular verbs. Students also will learn how to make comparisons, how to use direct object pronouns, how to conjugate and use reflexive verbs and how to form commands. Vocabulary will focus on school-related terms, extra-curricular activities, daily routines, clothing, fashion, shopping and asking for and giving directions. A printable workbook and answer key will be provided via email.     This course is a continuation of last year’s Spanish 3. If you are a new student, this class would be a good fit if you are comfortable with the present and preterite tenses and have knowledge of vocabulary related to personal descriptions, pastimes, food, living quarters, travel, careers and media Students will start with unit 2A in the Realidades 2 text (new students will need to purchase a copy of the text prior to the beginning of class). We will focus on informal commands, the present progressive and the present perfect, Vocabulary will focus on childhood activities, celebrations, accidents and emergencies. During the Winter session: Students will continue working their way through the Realidades 2 text. Grammar will cover irregular verbs in the preterite, the imperfect tense, formal commands and the subjunctive mood. Vocabulary will cover travel, professions, media and cooking. Students will be finishing the Realidades 2 text and can choose to continue with the next book in the series or transition to a literature-focused text in the spring “trimester.” Please plan to order your textbook (Realidades 2, any version) prior to the start of class (available online at AbeBooks.com, eBay and second-hand stores).     This course is a continuation of last year’s Spanish 4. If you are a new student, this class would be a good fit if you are able to use most Spanish verb tenses (present, past, future, perfect, progressive) and moods (indicative, imperative and subjunctive) and are interested in reading short pieces of literature and discussing and analyzing these in class. The focus is on conversation and discussion, with a comprehensive grammar review of all verb tenses and moods. Vocabulary covered is related to the selections that are read. This class will use the text "Encuentros Maravillosos" and is available for purchase for $15 from the instructor.
  • The Camino de Santiago in Spain: Plan and Prepare for Your Hike

    Adventure-seeking adults: If you’ve ever dreamed of hiking in a country where rugged mountains meet breathtaking coastlines, ancient trails wind through medieval villages, and every step brings you closer to the terminus of one of the most historic and important pilgrimage routes in Europe, Spain should be at the top of your list. Chris Kauffeld has hiked four different Caminos: the French Way, the Primitive Way, the Silver Way and the Madrid Way. His next Camino will be the Portuguese Camino.
